Deal With It!

The house isn’t on fire, the bank account still has some money in it and that mole is bigger than it used to be but ….. Deal With It! What is the potential cost of procrastination and avoidance of taking action? In many cases it can by a life or death question!

You could well be a lot like me in that you are guilty of procrastination and FAFFing about – putting all sorts of things off because it’s not that urgent today so I won’t bother.

Deal With It! Far too often we hear sad stories of individuals that don’t take action until it’s too late and there is now a life changing outcome; had action been taken months or even years ago, this would not have come to pass.

Sadly, like many others my father was one of those whose pride and stubbornness stopped him from seeing a doctor for what turns out to have been several years. The cancer was now a problem and he didn’t survive it. Was that selfish of him? Yes you could say that, his lack of action caused an early departure that could have been avoided, depriving his children of a parent and his grandchildren of time to learn from and enjoy their grandfather.

This is not a bitter rant against my father, he came from a generation where one didn’t want to be a nuisance or a burden to doctors or carers alike. If it was manageable then there was no real need to take action and he just coped. This means I am not and can’t be angry with him because that was his conditioning, his upbringing, the way he was. But that doesn’t mean it has to be the same way for me.

Unintentionally he self-sabotaged his own existence by not dealing with an issue, by not taking action to make things right because of an ill-conceived desire not to inconvenience others.

I’m sure you have already made the connection to where this newsletter is heading!
